Amy Winehouse’s sad death came when she was just 27. It’s an age that sounds familiar to anyone who knows their history regarding gone-too-soon musical artists.
The so-called 27 Club tragically has some notable members in addition to Winehouse: Jimi Hendrix mixed sleeping pills with wine and died at 27. Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones died at 27 after drowning in a swimming pool.

Also gone at that age: Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and many other musicians, as listed on the subject’s Wikipedia page.

Of course, this club of tragic coincidence is one that no one wishes existed. Wendy O’Connor, Cobain’s mother, famously said, “Now he’s gone and joined that stupid club,” after her son’s death in 1994. “I told him not to join that stupid club.”
Sadly, there’s proof that rock stars are more likely to become members. A 2007 study by researchers at Liverpool John Moores University determined that North American and British music stars were “twice as likely to die a premature death as ordinary citizens of the same age,” according to an AP article.

Woody Harrelson

Three Cheers for Woody Harrelson - it's his 50th birthday today (23Jul11).
Born Woodrick Tracy Harrelson, Woody is best known for his breakthrough role as a dim-witted bartender in TV hit Cheers. He's since gone on to tackle a host of quirky roles, playing a serial killer, a country singer, a bounty hunter and even a zombie slayer.
Away from Hollywood, Harrelson is a family man and dad to three daughters, as well as a strict veganand devoted environmental activist.
To mark his 50th, WENN takes a look back at his life with 10 fascinating facts about Harrelson himself. Woody, we salute you!
- His dad, Charles Harrelson, was a professional hitman, who was sentenced to life behind bars for assassinating a federal judge. Harrelson, Sr. unsuccessfully tried to break out of prison on America's Independence Day (04Jul) in 1995 and died 12 years later (07) of heart disease.
- Woody turned vegan at 24 to cure his acne; he now eats only raw food.
- Born in Texas, he now calls Hawaii home and counts Kris Kristofferson and Owen Wilson as his neighbours. His house in Maui is completely solar-powered.
- During one madcap night in 1982, Harrelson was arrested for dancing in the middle of a street. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after running from cops.
- Harrelson met the love of his life, Laura Louie, in 1987 on the set of Cheers and made her his wife in 2008. Alanis Morissette and Willie Nelson performed at their nuptials.
- Beatles legend Sir Paul MCCartney is a close friend - the pair bonded over their shared passion for animals rights.
- Despite critical acclaim and two Oscar nods, his performance in Indecent Proposal won him the Worst Supporting Actor trophy at the 1993 Golden Raspberry Awards.
- Harrelson has long championed the legalisation of marijuana and joined the advisory board for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws in 2003.
- In a charity soccer game last year (10), Harrelson scored the winning goal in a sudden death shoot-out alongside teammates Robbie Williams, Mike Myers and Michael Sheen. After smashing the ball into the back of the net, the actor admitted the match in England was "the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced".
- He shares his birthday with Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, rocker Slash and infamous White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

Blush - Undivided - 110721 Live

Oh, the highs and lows of cracking the US TV and music markets. Last night girl group Blush -- themselves the product of a reality TV talent search -- made their US TV debut on 'So You Think You Can Dance,' a pretty major gig in anyone's book.

However, their performance of 'Undivided' featuring Snoop Dogg has been slated by critics. Hardly the reception the girls were looking for on their first outing.

'EW' referred to them as "Pussycat Dolls Lite," adding that "The obvious similarities were unfortunate, especially since their routine was even more mind-numbingly boring than Nicole Scherzinger's performance last week. ... Seriously, though, who did Snoop get high to get those girls on the show?"

'The Los Angeles Times' blasted the band's name -- "more 1981 than 2011" -- and said "their music was forgettable (despite a boost from Snoop Dogg) and their look and stage presence needs some work. (Less winking, to start.)"

Yahoo criticized the girls' "truly horrendous" vocals and scathingly noted that their dancing "wasn't even good, which is pretty important when performing on a show called 'So You Think You Can Dance.' ... If this performance were on 'America's Got Talent' all three Xs would have been lit up within a minute into the performance." Ouch.

Commenters on Twitter were just as forthright: "Wow, never thought I'd willingly want to hear Snoop Dog, but Blush was so bad I wanted him to keep going."

Billed as "The World's First Pan-Asian Girl Band," Blush is the product of 'Project Lotus,' a 'Making the Band'-type talent search in Asia. After being searched and auditioned from each of five representing countries -- India, China, Japan, Korea and Phillipines -- the successful contestants were put through an intensive girl band bootcamp in Asia and the US.

They've also worked with a number of heavy-hitting producers and writers including Eliot Kennedy (Spice Girls, S Club 7, Celine Dion), Shaznay Lewis (All Saints) and Una Healy (The Saturdays).

Do you think their performance was really that bad? Watch it here:
